Security Awareness Programs (Policy SW-37)

Policy:

Clarkson College provides students, faculty, and staff with safety-related awareness activities. The Facilities Website and UNMC Campus Public Safety Website are available to enhance awareness of personal safety, security, substance abuse, and sexual misconduct/assault education. Additional programs are also offered through the Student Support Committee and other Clarkson College programming.

Procedures:

  • During new student orientation, students are informed of the services offered by UNMC Public Safety. Students are encouraged to sign up for our RAVE Alert System and have the opportunity to do so during orientation. The RAVE alert system will alert students, staff, and faculty anytime there is an “immediate threat” to safety. Examples of an immediate threat include tornadoes or extreme weather, armed intruders, bomb threats, and gas leaks.
  • UNMC Public Safety meets with residential students at the beginning of each semester to discuss personal safety and explain the safety protocols in the residence hall.
  • Every October, during Campus Safety Week, information is sent to the entire college community regarding personal safety, along with links to safety videos. This information is sent in conjunction with the Annual Safety and Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report.
  • The Student Support Committee provides online information, printed materials, posters, as well as substance abuse education and prevention programs throughout the year.

A common theme of all security communications is to encourage students and employees to be aware of their responsibilities for their own safety and the safety of others.

When appropriate, information is given to the College campus through the Alert Notification System alerts.
