DMI 438 - MRI Physics and Instrumentation

(Three hours theory per week) This course provides students with the basic concepts of the physics of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the instrumentation utilized in MRI image acquisition. Students will explore a historical perspective leading to the development and production of MRI images, MRI image weighting and contrast, different pulse sequences utilized, protocol optimization, and MRI image artifacts. Hazards associated with strong magnetic fields and radio frequencies are discussed, as well as the actual components of the MRI equipment.
