HIM 456 - Database Architecture and Design
This course is designed to equip students with the necessary skills essential for designing and safely operating EHR data systems. Students will gain hands-on experience in creating logical/physical data models, which include data dictionaries and referential integrity, as well as building relational databases and writing SQL queries to manage and extract data. The concept of interoperability is emphasized through the mapping of EHR components, the application of standards, and the reconciliation of data for accurate exchange. Students will also explore appropriate data collection methods and learn how to use analytics/visualization tools to analyze data and report findings.
