IC 215 - Community Based Cultural Exploration

This course takes the student on a journey of the local area to learn about different cultures, religious faiths and ethnic populations through an immersion experience. The course is a balanced approach with reading, study and classroom activities designed to enhance the student’s ability to interact with patients of diverse backgrounds; with community-based explorations through field trips, tours and guest speakers. Activities will focus on patient-centered techniques and holistic patient assessment. Students must have access to transportation for off-campus activities and be willing to comply with business/professional dress code expectations as needed out of cultural respect. This is a designated service course. ◊ This course emphasizes student engagement using a required service experience.
